Sacramento Valley Chapter Series Trophies
Trophies will be awarded to the SVC Adult Amateur or Junior/Young Rider member with the highest three-score average at each level. The scores must be from at least 2 different judges and earned at a CDS-recognized show during the regular qualifying show season. CDS Championship or Freestyle scores do not count.

Velona Peoples Memorial Perpetual Trophies
Trophies will be awarded to any SVC member with the single highest score for the specified level/test. The scores must be earned at a CDS-recognized show during the regular qualifying show season. Championship scores do not count. Both Intermediate I and Intermediate II scores count for the Intermediate Trophy. All levels (USDF/FEI) count for the J&M Ranch Musical Freestyle Trophy and the Frappelou Musical Freestyle Challenge Award.

Velona Peoples (1910-1993) was one of the founding members of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of CDS. After her daughter's tragic death in 1963, Velona decided to dedicate herself to riding and dressage as a tribute to her daughter, Judy. The following year, in 1964, Velona and a group of local riders started learning more about dressage with Hector Rodriquez from Columbia, S.A. This group gradually developed into the Sacramento Valley Chapter of CDS.
Velona was its guiding spirit. She was repeatedly elected Chairwoman and organized shows and clinics for the new chapter. She also hosted many of these events on her property located on Road 96 in Davis. (This same property is now owned and run by Carolyn and Jim McMullen as "McMullen Ranch")
Velona and her most memorable equine partner, "Aasgard," showed and attended clinics and even performed in a quadrille in the 1970s. Velona used to joke that she had trained Aasgard to go from Third Level to First Level in only three months. :)
She was loved and admired for hr hard work and dedication to dressage and the CDS community. She was one of the Sacramento Valley Chapter's founding members and one of its strongest supporters. The Velona Peoples Memorial Perpetual Trophies are the Sacramento Valley Chapter's tribute to a great horsewoman and a wonderful person.
